Xiaoran Bu
Email: xiaoran.bu@polyu.edu.hk
Xiaoran Bu received her master’s degree in Climate Change at the University College London in 2024 and her bachelor’s degree in Global and Environmental Studies from the Education University of Hong Kong. Her research interests primarily focus on climate change education and interdisciplinary application in climate change. She understands climate change from various aspects such as meteorological science, environmental economics, politics, environmental science, sociology and education, and combines technology and theory to deeply study the future development and adaptation strategies of climate change. In addition, she combines climate change skills and knowledge with education, helping to analyze the new talent needs of various industries to adapt to climate change, thereby promoting the progressive development of climate change education.
In her master’s research, Xiaoran uses four models with different characteristics to reconstruct the climate of Central Africa in the middle and late Holocene based on climate modelling technology. Using palaeontological and archaeological findings as evidence, the characteristics, as well as the accuracy of the models, are discussed in terms of the spread of language, the expansion and contraction of forests, the migration of populations, and subsistence sites such as iron smelting and agriculture. This study integrates knowledge from various disciplines, including climate science, palaeontology, sociology, and archaeology, using several skills such as modelling, data science, and spatial analysis.
